Lyrics
This is a collection of the lyrics to the songs of Suzanne Vega, together
with a sort of German translation, where I don't translate it always word
for word, but rather try to catch the meaning and the mood of them. And
furthermore, I try to keep the rhythm of the lyrics in such a way
that it is possible to sing to the music. This is not easy due to some
differences between English and German and I am not really a poet, but
I hope it's not too bad. Naturally I had to take some artistic freedom
in translating them, and it was basically impossible - for me - to retain
the rhymes.
I may make some changes in my translations as they are really sort of
an alpha-version. And I am trying to translate all songs eventually, but
that takes some time; so why don't you check back once in a while?
Dies ist eine Sammlung der Texte zu einigen Liedern von Suzanne Vega,
zusammen mit einer deutschen Übersetzung. Ich habe versucht, so nahe
am Original zu bleiben wie es mir möglich war; größeren
Wert habe ich jedoch darauf gelegt, daß die deutschen Texte zur Melodie
passen, also das Mitsingen möglich ist. Dieser Anforderung mußten
sich auch die Endreime der Zeilen beugen, die daher kaum vorhanden sind.
Jeder, der einmal versucht hat, einen englischen - oder
generell fremdsprachigen
- Text ins Deutsche zu übertragen, wobei zusätzlich noch die
Silbenanzahl fix vorgegeben ist, weiß, daß es Leichteres gibt.
Die Resultate sind auch dementsprechend holprig und ungehobelt, aber man
kann zumindest zur Musik mitsingen, und das ist die Hauptsache.
Es mag öfter einmal vorkommen, daß die Silbenanzahl in einer
Zeile zwischen dem englischen und dem deutschen Text nicht übereinstimmt;
in diesen Fällen bildet diese Zeile mit der nächsten Zeile eine
Einheit, und die Silbenanzahl der beiden Zeilen zusammen ist wieder gleich.
